Birmingham based promoters of eclectic music and art, Capsule, have certainly given us some treats in the past, with Sunn O))) and of course the mighty Supersonic Festival, less of a festival, more of a lesson in noise! Tonight is no different as they’ve put Welsh groovers Taint on the bill.

It’s a shame that these guys remain under-rated considering the hard slog they put in and tonight bears witness to some awesome riffs and melody. Jim Bob’s commanding vocals bring forth the crushing rhythms of ‘All Bees To The Sea’ and ‘Black Rain’. A superb show indeed.

Baroness is a name every critic and riff aficionado has had on their lips in recent months. The sophomore album ‘Blue Record’ has been rightly ranked highly in every “2009 best of list”. It’s indeed a beast of a record and luckily for them their performances expel the same high energy levels.

John Baizley’s guitar tone is covered in warming fuzz that excites on ‘Swollen and Halo’ and ‘Wanderlust’ whilst his bellowing invites choral shout-a-longs in ‘Jake Leg’ give everyone a giant hard-on (even the women), now that’s entertainment.

For a progressive band like Baroness, they are easy to fall in love with as they are equally brutal and beautiful; and tonight’s performance is simply perfect. For all you naysayers still stuck in the hype about ‘Red Record’, bite the riffs of ‘The Gnashing’ and bite them hard! Beards Rule!
