Showcasing UK death metal talent were tonight's openers in Detrimentum, with thoughtful brutality linked together with introspective melodies and one particular song supposedly about Michael Jackson all providing a compelling mix.

Technicality was the order of the day with Gorod. Opening with ‘Disavow Your God’, these French death metallers proceeded in melting their fretboards while putting on a chaotic live show. Unfortunately, they had to cut their set short due to time constraints.

Avulsed had the audience under their thumb with a hyper and lively performance. ‘Let Me Taste Your Flesh’, ‘Carnivorosity’ and ‘Gorespattered Suicide’ were excellent selections alongside new material, one named ‘Broken Hymens’ and another unnamed and sung in Spanish, but the language barrier was not a problem as the violence in the pit failed to cease. Frontman Dave Rotten even crowd surfed himself…while growling.

Immolation had quite the show to top after Avulsed, and the commanding stage presence was a change of pace. Playing a cut from each album, the audience lapped up Immolation’s innovative death metal with its intense melodies. ‘I Feel Nothing’, ‘Once Ordained’, ‘Father, You’re Not A Father’ and ‘Harnessing Ruin’ were all performed flawlessly, and final number ‘World Agony’ was delightfully efficient in drawing such a frenzied evening to a close. Good stuff.
