With what appeared to be Zeromancer’s inspiration bottoming out after 2004’s ‘Zzyxz,’ this once big-name in the goth-metal scene seemingly foraged around in the ashes of their dwindling reputation in what was apparently a futile attempt to rediscover the unique harsh but melodramatic sound which made them so sought after. After nearly 6 years filling the void with sub-standard drivel, it would seem that they have finally done it, with ‘The Death of Romance,’ being the first album in their history that is actually listenable in its entirety.

Although it comes with more strong-points and a higher tolerance level than ‘Sinner’s International’ for example, Zeromancer aren’t out of the woods yet. Digging themselves out of obscurity with tracks such as ‘The Pygmalion Effect,’ and ‘Murder Sound,’ seemingly demonstrating quality over noise-quantity and the not-so-aptly named ‘Revengefuck,’ not really punching it’s weight, it is clear that we will need to see more progress if Zeromancer are to be clear of the rutt that they have stubbornly dug themselves into.
