‘Death Culture’ is the brand new album by a Slovenian death metal group by the name of Noctiferia. After the success of ‘Slovenska Morbida’ in 2006, this should have confirmed their spot in the death metal limelight.

However, this record simply can’t compete with the likes of other newly-released death metal albums. For example, albums such as ‘Bloodstained Endurance’ (Trail of Tears) or ‘1888’ (Defiled) would beat this release hands down. While Noctiferia are likely to be proud of themselves with this record, after a full listen through it does sound virtually identical to their previous albums. To be quite honest they haven’t developed at all in the last few years. Nothing has changed. From first impressions, it seems that this album will probably only impress the band’s hardcore, yet extremely small fan base.

That said, a couple of tracks are pretty cool. The only real stand-out songs would be ‘Non Individuum’ and the final one, ‘S.M.02’. These are the ones that show off the band’s talent in every regard.

Overall, Noctiferia haven’t made a very big impact with ‘Death Culture’. It’s really frustrating because some of the tracks are brilliant. They just now need to release an album where the tracks are consistently brilliant through and through. If they can pull this off, then they’ll be a force to be reckoned with.
