Italy seems to have acquired a taste for releasing romantically tinged compositions and it would appear that Roberto Conforti’s latest offering ‘Darkness Prevails’ under his musical alias of ‘Pulcher Femina,’ does little to detract from this trend; bringing together 80’s style melancholy and laid-back synthpop, ‘Darkness Prevails’ is an emotional and sensitive trip into how Conforti views the world around him.
Crying out with new-romantic charm at every corner, it screams of accomplishment by bringing together driving force of EBM-style soundscapes with the laboured vocal style of epitomic electro-pop stars such as Depeche Mode’s David Grahan and Human League’s Phillip Oakey. This notion is driven home by the energetic ‘Tragic Heroes’ with the charming ‘To Fight: To Find’ providing the two-step allure of bonafide goth hit.
Finding this pivotal middle ground is not easy even for the most practised musician, and it is evident that Conforti has hit every musical nail directly on the head with such aplomb that his mixtures of light and dark, love and sorrow become totally seamless.
