Band grammar rulez UK! Okay, so the moniker might be more irritating than finding out David Brent is your new brother-in-law, Construcdead actually do deal in a solid, if uninspiring brand of metal. First track ‘Sedated Morning’ is quite busy, and sounds like Devildriver if they had got a bit flabby and let themselves go a bit, or if more people still gave a shit about Soilwork.

However, that turns out to be a false dawn: apart from a staid production, it’s the fact the hooks are so blunted that they could barely hook a marshmallow let alone the average metalhead’s lughole.‘No Exit’, despite having all the right parts, feels about as smooth as a massage with a clenched fist, while ‘Disfigured Beauty’ just sounds like a pile up. Also, vocalist Jens Borman is nowhere as slick a vocalist as he should be: despite being a dab hand at writing melodic vocal lines for ‘Mephisto’ or ‘Spirtual Shift’, he simply doesn’t have the tones to pull it off.

Put simply, this album is a bit of a non-entity, and about as exciting as waiting for a beige bus. There’s scarcely a moment that makes you stamp your feet, and riffs that make your heart skip a beat are rarer than a Frankie Boyle one-liner you can repeat to your nan. Although ‘No Exit’ has a kind of rough-hewn charm, it’s all too rare in an album that has virtually no identity of its own.
