Neun Welten (literally translated as Nine Worlds) are a German melancholic folk band. They return with their brand new album, 'Destrunken'. Much of their previous work has been  unfairly disregarded in the folk/goth scene. But this is certainly their best album to date. Nowadays, you will struggle to find any bands that are able to find the perfect balance of gothic and medieval melodies with powerful and haunting vocals soothing over the top. So you should seriously be considering checking this album out if this is your type of fairground.

It is worth mentioning that quite a lot of the music played on this album is played on a single acoustic guitar. At times, this works great as this is capable of creating an interesting sound. It is clear that the young David Zaubitzer certainly has huge potential, and could move on to playing in far more well known groups in the near future. When these guys get the balance just right, some of their songs are utterly breathtaking, however we they are not without fault. After listening to seven or eight tracks on this album, the same acoustic patterns can become quite repetitive and weary at times.

Overall, this is a great comeback album from the German goths, with tracks that could soon launch them into the mainstream. However, on their next album, they should work on creating more of a varied and edgy sound.
