Swedish death hounds Hypocrisy know how to make metal. So well-versed are they in their practices, they can now turn any metal in to pure gold - heavy gold. Scientific fact: Hypocrisy CDs are unaffected by anti-gravity environments. It’s just as well ‘A Taste Of Extreme Divinity’ is not meant to be eaten; you’d be a permanent fixture on the floor.
Hypocrisy don’t mess around. ‘Valley Of The Damned’ gets straight in to the meat of death metal with a 500 lb steak of chugging, grinding brutality and a pulverising rhythm which is present throughout the entire album. ‘Weed Out The Weak’ opens with gale-force aggression and exponential energy which feeds the snagging grip of ‘Global Domination’, the controlled descent of darkness in ‘Quest’ and the harsh, hammering ‘Sky Is Falling Down’.
Hypocrisy are true metal veterans, but there is no indication in ‘A Taste Of Extreme Divinity’ that they have become complacent, or feel they can spit out an album that’s crafted out of pure know-how instead of motivation. They might not be breaking any boundaries here, but ‘A Taste Of Extreme Divinity’ is obviously the product of inspiration and grit. A taste of true workmanship.
