Germany’s Secrets Of The Moon manifest a certain kind of misery with their music and have been presenting their despondent, doom-shot black metal to the unhappy hoards for over ten years. They are currently on a tour and are booked for next year’s Hellfest in Clisson.

The eerie aura of title track ‘Privilegivm’ presets the distress that seeps through the track listing like a plague. The haunting Gregorian chant is turned in to a disturbing, almost Delphic incantation by the heraldic beat of the drums, warning of the tormented strains of ‘Sulphur’. The creepy and sinister sounds of ‘Harvest’ weave in with the war-drums of ‘Descent’. The slower, sadder ‘Shepherd’ echoes with vacuity and emptiness.

The progressive threads in Secrets Of The Moon’s work are apparent; their craft in this particular sub-genre of metal is strong and the production on this album is flawless. However, ‘Privilegivm’ does not have the dynamic or stimuli that makes an album listenable from the first note to the last.
